Jailbreaking iPhones

Some people will “jailbreak” their iPhone, a process that removes hardware restrictions imposed by Apple and the wireless carrier (the equivalent term for Android devices is “rooting”). This allows downloading additional software and applications not available in the Apple App Store, making the phone more vulnerable to malware and spyware. Most commercially available spyware products require a jailbroken iPhone to install.

To know if your iPhone is jailbroken, access the Spotlight Search page (swipe down on your screen) and search for the Cydia app, which indicates that your device might be jailbroken. If your phone is jailbroken or you believe it is, restore the device and ensure you are running the latest iOS. This will remove software downloaded outside the Apple App Store.
